What Playground Games has confirmed

The exact trigger has not been fully pinned down, but players have linked it to saves getting interrupted or glitched while syncing to the cloud. On Xbox, the console’s Quick Resume feature has come up repeatedly as a suspected factor. When a save breaks mid-sync, it can become unreadable, taking your progress with it.

Playground is working with the Xbox team on platform-level fixes. Xbox began rolling out a system update for Xbox Series X|S starting June 12, 2026, and as of the June 18 Series 2 hotfix the investigation is still ongoing. So the situation is improving, but you should not assume you are immune.

If you have already lost your save, act today

This is the part that matters most, and timing is everything. Per the official notice:

1. Open a support ticket immediately. Go to the Forza Support website and file a ticket describing the loss. This lets the team investigate your case and try to recover your profile by reverting your progress to an earlier save.
2. Submit it the same day it happened. The notice specifically says filing the same day the issue occurs increases the chance of recovery. The older the loss, the harder it is to roll back.
3. Stop playing until they respond. Do not start new sessions or create new saves while your case is open. A fresh save on top of the broken one can overwrite the recovery point you are trying to get back.

That third step is the one people get wrong. The instinct after a wipe is to just start replaying, but that can permanently bury the save support is trying to recover. Sit tight until they review it.

• Keep Gaming Services fully updated. On PC and Steam, your Gaming Services app should be running version 37.114.10001.0 or higher. On Xbox, make sure the console system update is installed.
• Disable Quick Resume for Forza Horizon 6 on Xbox. Highlight the game’s box art anywhere in the console experience, press the Menu button, then go to Manage game and add-ons > Quick Resume settings > Disable Quick Resume.
• Stay online when you quit. Quitting offline means the cloud cannot confirm your latest save.
• Give the save time to sync before powering off. Wait until the save indicator clears before you shut down the console, close the PC client, or switch devices.
• Do not force quit during a save screen, and do not power off the device mid-gameplay.
• If you get an “Out of space” crash pop-up, check your storage and restart the console through the proper menu option rather than yanking the power.

The risk goes up if you bounce between platforms, for example console to console, or between Steam, the Xbox PC app and Cloud Gaming. Saves desync when one device closes before the cloud catches up.

Always use “Quit” on console or “Exit to desktop” on PC when you finish, and confirm the save icon is gone before closing. Then give your device a few minutes to finish syncing before powering down or jumping to another platform. Earlier in Series 1 there was a rumor that creating or sharing a livery for a Series 1 reward car could corrupt your save. Playground investigated and confirmed in a June 18 update that there are no known save issues tied to liveries for Series 1 reward cars. You are safe to make and share those.

None of this should scare you off the game. The fixes are landing, and following the steps above puts you in a strong position. Treat your save like it matters: stay updated, kill Quick Resume, let the cloud sync, and never start fresh on top of a broken save before support has looked at it.
