Subnautica 2 All Blueprint & Fragment Locations Guide

Where to find every blueprint and fragment in Subnautica 2. Complete location guide for Camp One, Cicada Wreck, Welcome Center, and all fragment spawn points.

How Blueprints Work in Subnautica 2

Nothing is unlocked by default. Every tool, piece of equipment, base structure, and vehicle starts as a locked blueprint that you need to discover through exploration. The primary method is scanning fragments — broken, degraded versions of items scattered across the ocean.

Most blueprints require 2-3 fragment scans to fully unlock the recipe. Once you’ve scanned enough fragments of the same type, the recipe registers permanently. If you scan additional fragments beyond the requirement, you get bonus materials — free resources dropped at your feet. Always scan duplicates.

There are three unlock methods:

  1. Fragment scanning — the main method for tools, equipment, and base parts
  2. Material pickup — grabbing certain resources auto-unlocks related recipes
  3. Story triggers — interacting with alien tech or reaching story milestones

This guide focuses on fragment locations, organized by the Points of Interest (POIs) where they cluster.

Starting Area Fragments (0-100m from Lifepod)

Welcome Center (87m Southeast)

The Welcome Center is the first colonist structure you’ll find, sitting at only 7 meters depth. It’s easy to miss because you’re looking for things underwater, and this building is barely submerged.

Contains:

  • Bio Lab — Not a fragment but a functional station. Insert a Basic Battery to activate it. This is where you access the DNA modification system.
  • Early base furniture fragments
  • Data terminals with lore and partial blueprint data

Tip: Visit the Welcome Center on your very first dive. Activating the Bio Lab gives you access to the biomod system immediately.

Lifepod Cave (Directly Below)

The cave under your Lifepod contains your first resources but also has scannable fragments embedded in the walls.

Contains:

  • Basic tool fragments (if present in the randomized pool)
  • Flora and mineral scan data

Dark Caves (Near Starting Shallows)

The dark caves in the starting area contain early tool fragments. Bring a light source if you have one — or scan by feel.

Contains:

  • Flashlight fragments — Found in dark caves below the drop zone. Scan 2 to unlock.

Habitat Builder Fragments (83-95m Southeast)

The Habitat Builder blueprint comes from scanning fragments near the Welcome Center area, approximately 83-95 meters southeast of the Lifepod.

Recipe once unlocked: 2 Titanium, 1 Glass, 1 Basic Battery, 1 Copper Wire

This is your second-highest priority after the Scanner and Flashlight. The Habitat Builder lets you build a base and escape the Lifepod. Hunt these fragments early.

Camp One (276m North-Northeast)

Camp One is a colonist outpost — the first major POI you’ll discover outside the starting area. It’s packed with scannable fragments and is worth a dedicated exploration trip.

Coordinates reference: -323736, 409359, -1684

Contains:

  • Biobed — Heals you while resting. Scan fragments here. Recipe: 3 Titanium, 1 Glass, 1 Copper Wire.
  • Dining Chair — Base furniture.
  • Various base part fragments (walls, furniture, decorative items)
  • Scannable terminals with colony lore

What else is nearby:

  • Power Transmitter fragments — Found about 389m north-northeast of the Lifepod, near Camp One. Coordinates: -324518, 396824, -4480.
  • Silver-bearing caves underneath Camp One’s cliffs (northeast of the northernmost building)
  • Pent mushrooms (yellow clusters) that auto-unlock the Biofuel Block recipe

Trip planning: Bring enough oxygen for a 15-20 minute excursion. Scan everything in Camp One, grab Pent from the surface, and hit the silver caves below on the return trip.

Old Habitat (~400m North of Lifepod)

A damaged habitat module from an earlier colonization attempt.

Contains:

  • Sonic Resonator fragments — The Sonic Resonator is a priority tool. It destroys Bloom Cankers (story progression), mines large mineral deposits (Gold farming), and harvests Metal Farm nodes.
  • Recipe once unlocked: 2 Titanium Ingot, 2 Lead, 1 Wiring Kit, 1 Basic Battery

The Old Habitat is farther than Camp One and in slightly more dangerous water. Bring basic equipment (Flashlight, Fins, Air Tank) before attempting this trip.

Cicada Wreck (Far East, Deep)

The Cicada is the crashed starship that brought colonists to Zezura. Its wreckage is the richest fragment source in the game, spread across a deep crash site.

Location: Roughly 1,800 meters east of the Lifepod, in the second major biome where the water turns dark green. The wreck entrance is on the western side.

Contains:

  • Bioscanner (Degraded) — Inside a broken chamber at the bottom of the ship. Requires a Repair Tool to access. Scanning unlocks the Bioscanner blueprint. Recipe: 1 Scanner, 2 Enameled Glass, 3 Conduit Crystal.
  • Lead deposits nearby — needed for the Sonic Resonator
  • Metal Salvage — abundant around the wreck, processes into Salvaged Titanium
  • Multiple equipment and vehicle fragments
  • Advanced tool blueprints
  • Story-critical data terminals

Prerequisites:

  • Tadpole submersible (or very good Air Tank capacity)
  • Repair Tool (to access sealed chambers)
  • Flashlight (the wreck interior is dark)

Warning: The Collector Leviathan patrols the water between the Lifepod and the Cicada Wreck. Plan your approach route carefully. Use Distraction Flares and Silent Running if traveling by Tadpole.

Needler Nest (~1,360m East)

A biological formation dominated by Needler Mango territory.

Coordinates reference: -203476, 447174, -20868

Contains:

  • Lab Chair — Base furniture blueprint

This location is deep in aggressive territory. The Needler Mangos (and their Alpha variant) guard this area aggressively. Bring Distraction Flares and be prepared to retreat.

Alien Structures (Far East)

The alien ruins and structures in the far eastern portion of the map contain unique blueprint triggers and scanning opportunities.

Contains:

  • Alien technology scans — Feed into story progression and unlock related recipes
  • Conduit Crystal formations nearby — needed for the Bioscanner
  • Celestine and Atacamite deposits on the surrounding seabed
  • Data terminals with alien lore

Thermal Plant Blueprint (492m Southeast, 308m Deep)

Coordinates reference: -303294, 451415, -30764

Located in the volcanic biome at significant depth. The Thermal Plant blueprint fragments are found near active volcanic vents.

Recipe once unlocked: Requires Gold and Titanium (exact amounts vary by current build)

Prerequisites: Heat Tolerance adaptation and depth-capable vehicle. This is a late-game blueprint tied to the volcanic biome.

Wakemaker Blueprint (Multiple Locations)

The Wakemaker has three confirmed scan locations spread across different biomes. It’s one of the few tools with multiple fragment sources, giving you flexibility in which ones you discover first.

Recipe once unlocked: 1 Silver, 1 Wiring Kit, 1 Grease, 1 Basic Battery

Auto-Unlock Blueprints

These recipes unlock automatically when you pick up the associated material for the first time:

Material Picked UpRecipe Unlocked
Pent (yellow mushroom)Biofuel Block
Medical Gel SacFiber Mesh
Various biological materialsTheir respective base recipes

Always pick up new materials even if you don’t immediately need them. The auto-unlock might give you a recipe you didn’t know existed.

Duplicate Scanning for Free Materials

After you’ve fully unlocked a blueprint, scanning additional fragments of the same type drops bonus materials at your feet. The materials correspond to the item’s recipe — scan an extra Flashlight fragment and you might get free Titanium and Quartz.

This means you should never skip a fragment just because you’ve already unlocked its blueprint. Every duplicate scan is free resources.

Fragment Hunting Strategy

Phase 1: Starting Area (First 2 Hours)

  1. Welcome Center — activate Bio Lab, scan everything inside
  2. Lifepod cave — scan any fragments along with resource collection
  3. Dark caves — Flashlight fragments
  4. Habitat Builder fragments (83-95m SE)

Phase 2: Camp One Run (Hours 2-4)

  1. Swim NNE 276m to Camp One
  2. Scan all fragments: Biobed, Dining Chair, base parts
  3. Grab Pent for auto-unlock
  4. Check nearby Power Transmitter location
  5. Silver caves on the return

Phase 3: Old Habitat (Hours 3-5)

  1. North 400m to Old Habitat
  2. Scan Sonic Resonator fragments
  3. Return and craft the Sonic Resonator

Phase 4: Cicada Wreck (Hours 5-10)

  1. Build Tadpole vehicle (requires Power Cell)
  2. Navigate east 1,800m to the Cicada Wreck (avoid Collector Leviathan)
  3. Repair Tool to enter sealed chambers
  4. Scan Bioscanner and all other fragments
  5. Collect Lead deposits for Sonic Resonator if not already built

Phase 5: Deep Exploration (Hours 10+)

  1. Needler Nest fragments
