Subnautica 2 All Flora & Plants Guide: Uses, Locations & Harvesting

Complete guide to all flora and plants in Subnautica 2. Locations, crafting uses, harvesting methods, and which plants you need for survival on planet Zezura.

Flora on Planet Zezura

Subnautica 2 has over 30 confirmed flora types in Early Access — corals, kelp, sponges, worms, tunics, and alien plant life. Some are just scenery. Others are the difference between starving at 200 meters depth and having a full inventory of batteries, rubber, and healing supplies.

This guide covers every plant, where to find it, and why it matters for your survival.

Plants That Keep You Alive

These are the flora you need to prioritize. Ignore them and your early game grinds to a halt.

Acidic Raion

What it looks like: Large purple and green brain-shaped plant found in caves Where: Multiple spawns near the Lifepod. The closest is in the cave directly east, about 30 meters away. More grow under and around the Welcome Centre, 70 meters southeast of the Lifepod. How to harvest: Slash with your Survival Multitool to get Acidic Raion Pouches. Why it matters: Acidic Raion Pouches are the single most important early-game resource. You need them for:

  • Basic Battery (2 Copper + 1 Acidic Raion Pouch) — powers your Scanner, Flashlight, Habitat Builder, and Wakemaker
  • Mild Acid — used in multiple intermediate crafting recipes

You’ll burn through Acidic Raion Pouches fast. Memorize the cave locations and harvest every time you pass by.

Lucifer Rotsac

What it looks like: Glowing orange pentagons on the ocean floor Where: All over the map, but the best early spot is 80 meters directly southwest of the Lifepod. About 16 Lucifer Rotsacs grow around a rocky archway there. They respawn periodically. How to harvest: Pick up by hand — no tools needed. Why it matters: Lucifer Rotsac is the only source of Rubber in the game.

  • Rubber (2 Lucifer Rotsac at the Fabricator) — needed for Air Tanks, Air Bladders, and other survival equipment
  • Grease — another product from Lucifer Rotsac, used in tool recipes including the Wakemaker

Without Rubber you can’t build Air Tanks. Without Air Tanks you can’t explore deeper. Find the Lucifer Rotsac early.

Oxygen Tunic

What it looks like: Glowing blue flower Where: Found in every biome How to use: Swim near it to receive oxygen bubbles. Does not need to be harvested. Why it matters: These are your lifeline during deep dives. Mark locations of Oxygen Tunics on your route and plan dives around them. They’re the reason you can explore far from your base without drowning.

Angel Comb

What it looks like: Massive pylon structure with glowing stems, pink/purple coloring Where: Approximately 150-200 meters north-northeast of the Lifepod How to interact: Requires the Sonic Resonator to cleanse the Bloom infestation from it. Why it matters: Interacting with the Angel Comb unlocks the Digestion Adaptation (cures Digestive Incompatibility) and the Heat Tolerance Adaptation, which you need before you can mine Gold in volcanic areas. This is a story-critical plant. The mature Angel Comb specimens also provide structural materials and rare compounds from their central core.

Necrolei (Stilt Orb)

What it looks like: Tall purple plants on stalks (Stilt Orbs) growing among larger glowing pink hairy plants (Necrolei) Where: Necrolei Forest biome, deeper than starting area How to harvest: Slash Stilt Orbs with Survival Multitool to obtain Necrolei Cysts. Why it matters:

  • Necrolei Cyst — used to craft Strong Acid (2 Necrolei Cysts at the Processor)
  • Strong Acid — essential for Power Cells, which are required for the Tadpole vehicle

You need to reach the Necrolei Forest to progress to vehicle construction. Plan a dedicated trip with extra air supply.

Pent

What it looks like: Yellow mushroom clusters Where: Camp One area, roughly 276 meters north-northeast of the Lifepod How to harvest: Pick up by hand. Picking up Pent for the first time auto-unlocks the Biofuel Block recipe. Why it matters:

  • Crafts into Sulfur at the Processor
  • Used in Biofuel Block recipes for base power generation

Fiber Sources — Fibrous Pulp Plants

Multiple plants yield Fibrous Pulp when slashed with the Survival Multitool. Fibrous Pulp is used to craft Fiber Mesh, Biofuel, water, and food items. Here are the main sources:

Whip Gorgon

  • Where: Starting Shallows
  • Red sea flower, easy to spot and harvest early.

Feather Kelp

  • Where: Starting Shallows, inside caves
  • Red sea flower found specifically in cave environments.

Curtain Gorgon

  • Where: Starting Shallows, Coral Gardens
  • Found near debris and wreckage. Also common around coral formations.

Cradle Shortroot

  • Where: Starting Shallows
  • Bright yellow flower. Also yields Lucifer Rotsac alongside Fibrous Pulp.

Coral Types

Corals provide Coral Chippings and other materials when harvested.

Dragon’s Scale Coral

  • Where: Starting Shallows, on rocky walls
  • Red coral. Slash with Multitool for Coral Chippings, which craft into Coral Jars and Coral Mash.

Branching Coral

  • Where: Starting Shallows, Coral Gardens, on coral domes
  • Decorative and resource-bearing.

Bloom Flora — Story-Critical Plants

The Bloom infection is a major story element. These plants are part of the infestation you’ll need to clear to progress.

Bloom Biofilm

  • Where: Infested caves
  • White glowing barrier that blocks passage. Destroy with the Sonic Resonator.

Bloom Node

  • Where: Infested caves, part of Angel Comb structures
  • Connected to the Bloom infection network.

Bloom Sap

  • Where: Infested caves
  • Glowing bright blue. Yields Water Slugs, which you can craft into drinkable water.

Bloom Canker

  • Where: Infested caves, attached to Bloom Nodes
  • Must be destroyed with the Sonic Resonator to progress the story.

Bloom Core

  • Where: Core of infested Angel Comb
  • The heart of the infection in that area.

Other Notable Flora

Toxic Sponge

  • Where: Starting Shallows
  • Blue tube-shaped, emits toxic gas. Avoid swimming directly above it. Scanning with a Bioscanner contributes to the Chum Cloud active biomod.

Mimic Pylon

  • Where: Starting Shallows
  • Red-yellow glowing flower. Can electrocute you at night. Safe during the day, dangerous after dark.

Dangling Salp

  • Where: Starting Shallows, hanging from cave ceilings
  • Purple flower that hangs downward. Near caves that contain silver deposits — seeing Dangling Salps often means silver is nearby.

Jelly Lei

  • Where: Camp One area
  • Purple hanging vines. Another indicator plant — silver deposits frequently appear in caves with Jelly Lei growing near entrances.

Cage Gorgon

  • Where: Camp One area
  • Large glowing pineapple-shaped plant. Drops Cherimoya Rotsac when harvested.

BFJ (Big Friendly Jellyfish)

  • Where: Camp One area
  • Large blue-purple jellyfish-like plant. Passive and decorative.

Amphora Sponge

  • Where: Prologue area
  • Glowing blue bulb. One of the first plants you’ll encounter.

Awnworm

  • Where: Coral Forest
  • Tall slender tree-like organism.

Cabbage Shortroot

  • Where: Camp One area
  • Large purple flower.

Macaron Sponge

  • Where: Camp One area
  • Small blue tombstone-shaped mushroom.

Hecaton Tunic

  • Where: Camp One area
  • Sharp green coral.

Late-Game Flora

Stagged Mephit (HiHat)

  • Where: Hot Cave, approximately 250 meters depth
  • Tall pale mushroom found in volcanic areas.

Fridge Worm

  • Where: Hot Cave, 200-250 meters depth
  • Bright blue leafy greens in volcanic cave systems.

Flora Harvesting Tips

  1. Carry your Multitool always. Most plants require slashing to harvest. You lose nothing by swinging at every new plant you see.
  2. Mark Lucifer Rotsac patches with Beacons. Rubber is too important to forget where your supply grows.
  3. Oxygen Tunics are checkpoints. Before any deep dive, identify the Oxygen Tunic locations along your planned route.
  4. Plants respawn. Any location where you harvested materials will eventually regrow. Return regularly to productive spots.
  5. Some pickups auto-unlock recipes. Grabbing Pent unlocks Biofuel Block. Grabbing Medical Gel Sacs unlocks Fiber Mesh. Collect everything at least once.
  6. Dangling Salps and Jelly Lei signal silver. If you see these plants near a cave entrance, go inside — silver deposits are likely on the walls.
