WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers All Endings Guide — How to Get All 4 Endings

Complete guide to all four endings in WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers, including requirements, decision points, and how to achieve them all in a single playthrough with backup saves.

Four Endings, One Playthrough

WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers has four distinct endings, and the good news is you can get all of them in a single playthrough. You don’t need to replay the entire 30+ hour game four times. What you do need is four carefully placed backup saves at key decision points—and the discipline to not overwrite them.

I’ll cover each ending, what it requires, when to save, and which one you should aim for first.

The Four Endings (Overview)

EndingTypeComplexity
Successor of the BoShortest, simplestLow

Bound by Fate’s ThreadsTRUE ending, full storyHigh

Ending 1: Successor of the Bo

Requirements: Follow the Red-Clad Lady’s questline and refuse the Storyteller’s offer.

This is the shortest ending and the one you’re most likely to stumble into if you make certain choices without thinking about consequences. It cuts the game short—you skip the later portions of Chapter 4 and the entirety of Chapter 5.

How to get it:

  1. Progress the Red-Clad Lady’s questline throughout Chapters 1-3. She appears at several Shrines and gives you dialogue options about the nature of the Feathering plague.
  2. When the Storyteller offers you a choice in Chapter 4, refuse him.
  3. The Red-Clad Lady’s path triggers, leading you to an early resolution.

What you miss: Roughly 8-10 hours of content, including the later portions of Bo Capital, Depths of Capital, and the final boss against Xuanyangzi. You also miss the third riddle door and any questlines that resolve in Chapter 5.

When to get it: Make a backup save before the Storyteller’s Chapter 4 choice. Get this ending first, reload, then continue for the others.

Ending 2: Jarful of Medicine

Requirements: Give Xuanyangzi the Jade Chisel before interacting with the Gate of Truth.

This ending requires a specific item—the Jade Chisel—and specific timing. The Jade Chisel is found in the Bo Capital region in Chapter 4. The trigger is simple but the order matters.

How to get it:

  1. Progress normally through Chapter 4 until you reach the Bo Capital.
  2. Find the Jade Chisel (it’s in a chest in the Jade Garden sub-area, past the locked gate that requires the Garden Key from a nearby elite enemy).
  3. Bring the Jade Chisel to Xuanyangzi before you interact with the Gate of Truth.
  4. A unique dialogue option appears. Choose to give him the chisel.
  5. This triggers the Jarful of Medicine ending path.

Warning: If you interact with the Gate of Truth first, this ending becomes permanently locked for the playthrough. The order is non-negotiable.

When to get it: Make a backup save after entering Chapter 4 but before reaching the Gate of Truth. This is your second ending save point.

Ending 3: Dream’s Sweet Deceit

Requirements: Complete both He Youzai and Fang Yao’s questlines in full, obtain the Ring of Samsara, and trigger the Demon of Obsession encounter.

This is the most complex ending and the one that requires the most preparation across the entire game. You cannot set this up at the last minute—it depends on NPC interactions starting from Chapter 1.

How to get it:

  1. Complete He Youzai’s full questline (Chapter 2 through Chapter 5). Talk to him at every appearance, fulfill his requests, keep him alive.
  2. Complete Fang Yao’s full questline (Chapter 1 through Chapter 5). Same deal—every interaction, every trigger point.
  3. Obtain both halves of the Ring of Samsara from completing both questlines. They combine automatically.
  4. At the third riddle door in the Depths of Capital, choose the wrong answer (not “The Grand Dream Fades”). This opens the path to the Demon of Obsession.
  5. Defeat the Demon of Obsession.
  6. The game presents you with a final choice after the fight. Choose to embrace the dream.

Why most people miss this: Both questlines have interaction points that vanish permanently if you progress past them. Miss one conversation with He Youzai in Cloudspire, and the entire chain breaks. No warning, no second chance.

When to get it: Your third backup save should be before the third riddle door in Chapter 5. But the real preparation happens across the entire game. If you want this ending, follow the NPC quest guide from Chapter 1.

Ending 4: Bound by Fate’s Threads (TRUE Ending)

Requirements: Complete both He Youzai and Fang Yao’s questlines, then choose to venture out with them at the final decision.

This is the canonical ending—the one the story is built around, the one that gives you the full narrative payoff. It requires the same questline completion as Dream’s Sweet Deceit, but with a different final choice.

How to get it:

  1. Complete He Youzai and Fang Yao’s questlines (same as Ending 3).
  2. At the third riddle door, give the correct answer (“The Grand Dream Fades”) to proceed normally.
  3. Defeat the final boss, Xuanyangzi.
  4. At the final choice, choose to venture out with Fang Yao and He Youzai.

This gives you the most complete version of the story, the true resolution of Wuchang’s arc, and the best ending credits sequence.

When to get it: Your fourth save point is at the final choice. If you’ve already saved before the third riddle door (for Ending 3), you can reload that save, pick the correct answer, and continue to the true ending.

Save Point Strategy (All 4 in One Run)

Here’s the exact save plan:

Save SlotWhenPurpose
Save 1Before Storyteller’s offer (Ch.4)Ending 1: Successor of the Bo
Save 2After entering Ch.4, before Gate of TruthEnding 2: Jarful of Medicine
Save 3Before third riddle door (Ch.5)Ending 3: Dream’s Sweet Deceit
Save 4Before the final choice (post-final boss)Ending 4: Bound by Fate’s Threads

Recommended order: Play through the entire game on your main save, keeping all four backups intact. Get Ending 4 (true ending) first on your main save. Then reload Save 3 for Ending 3, Save 2 for Ending 2, and Save 1 for Ending 1.

Critical Preparation

Both He Youzai and Fang Yao’s questlines must be completed for Endings 3 and 4. These questlines are covered in detail in the NPC questline guide, but here’s the survival rule: talk to every NPC at every location, and do it before progressing to the next area. Several interactions are permanently missable, and the game will never tell you.

If you’re on a first playthrough and don’t want to follow a guide for every NPC, just aim for Endings 1 and 2. They’re achievable regardless of questline completion. Then use NG+ for Endings 3 and 4 with full knowledge of where every NPC appears.
