WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers Chapter 3 Walkthrough — Mt. Zhenwu
Complete walkthrough for Chapter 3 of WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers covering Mt. Zhenwu, the White-Robed Elder questline, Bone Whistle, and all boss strategies including Zhang Xianzhong.
The Mountain Changes Everything
Chapter 3 is a turning point. The story escalates, the bosses are harder, and one questline running through this chapter affects your options for the rest of the game. Mt. Zhenwu is smaller than the previous two chapters in terms of raw area count, but every zone is dense with enemies, lore, and decisions that matter.
If you still haven’t solved either riddle door from Chapters 1 and 2, you have until Chapter 4 before they vanish permanently. This is your last comfortable window to go back.
Zhenwu Temple
The temple is your starting area and it doubles as a hub for Chapter 3. Several NPCs gather here, and their dialogue updates as you progress through the mountain. Come back between major areas to check for new conversations.
The White-Robed Elder is here. Talk to him immediately. His questline is the most important side content in Chapter 3, and it starts with this first conversation. Miss this, and you lose access to a powerful tool for one of the chapter’s hardest fights.
The Elder gives you the Bone Whistle — hold onto it. I’ll explain when to use it.
Pavilion of Knowledge
The Pavilion is a library area filled with scholarly enemies. They’re fragile but fight at range with projectile attacks. Close the gap fast and don’t let them group up. Three of them casting simultaneously creates overlapping AOE that’s nearly impossible to dodge.
There are lore documents scattered throughout the Pavilion that fill in the history of Mt. Zhenwu. Not required reading for gameplay, but they add context to why the mountain is the way it is and what’s at stake in the fights ahead.
Altar Gate and Bamboo Path
Altar Gate is a choke point with heavy-armored enemies. They block most frontal attacks, so get behind them or use charged attacks that break guard. There’s one carrying a massive halberd who patrols back and forth — wait for him to turn before engaging. His swing arc covers 270 degrees if you trigger him from the front.
Bamboo Path is quieter. The enemies are spread thin and the path is mostly linear. It’s a good stretch to recover resources and mentally prepare. There’s a rest point at the end that you should absolutely use before heading to Ferry Overlook.
Ferry Overlook
Ferry Overlook has a gorgeous view and terrible enemies. Flying enemies here swoop in from off-screen and deal knockback that can push you off ledges. Fight with your back to a wall whenever possible. The overlook itself has an NPC who sells consumables — stock up on healing items and status cures.
Avian Dwelling and Bai Mansion
Avian Dwelling is an enemy-dense area with bird-type creatures and corrupted soldiers mixed together. The birds are fast and attack in flocks. AOE attacks or sweeping weapon types work best here — if you’re using a thrusting weapon, you’ll have a harder time hitting multiple targets.
Bai Mansion is the larger of the two areas and has multiple floors. Explore every room. Upgrade materials are hidden in places that look like dead ends but have breakable walls or drop-down points.
Check for NPC encounters inside Bai Mansion. There are characters here whose dialogue ties back to earlier chapters. Some of these conversations only trigger if you completed certain optional content before.
Rivulet and Avian Marsh
The Rivulet has amphibious enemies that submerge and reposition before attacking. Listen for the splash to know which direction they’re coming from.
Avian Marsh slows your movement with mud patches that reduce dodge distance, similar to the ice in Chapter 2. Stick to the raised paths when fighting. Only drop into the mud to grab items, then get back on solid ground.
Boss: Bo Sorcerer (Main Boss, Tied to White-Robed Elder Quest)
The Bo Sorcerer is your first mandatory boss of Chapter 3, and this fight has a mechanic you need to know about before you start it.
If you completed the White-Robed Elder’s questline up to this point, you can use the Bone Whistle during this fight to summon the Elder as an ally. He deals significant damage, draws aggro, and makes this fight considerably easier. Use the whistle at the start of the fight — don’t save it for a “clutch moment.” The Elder is most useful when he’s tanking hits while you deal free damage from behind.
Without the Elder, the Bo Sorcerer is a tough solo fight. He teleports frequently, summons spirit minions, and has a wide-range dark magic blast that hits harder than anything in Chapter 2. The minions are weak individually but they distract you, and the Sorcerer always attacks while you’re dealing with them. Kill the minions fast, then re-engage the boss.
His teleport has a pattern: he always reappears at the furthest point from your position. When he vanishes, turn around and start moving toward the opposite side of the arena. You’ll be in position to punish his reappearance animation.
Battlefield Pass
Battlefield Pass is the final stretch. A war-torn mountain pass swarming with the toughest regular enemies in the chapter. Don’t try to fight everything. Pick your engagements and save your resources for what’s ahead.
Boss: Liu Wenxiu / South General (Optional)
Liu Wenxiu is found off the main path in Battlefield Pass. He’s a straightforward warrior boss — no magic, no gimmicks, just a skilled swordsman. His combo strings are long but rhythmic. Once you learn the pattern, you can parry the entire chain and counter on the final hit.
The catch is his damage. Even his normal attacks take big chunks of health. One missed parry during a combo and you’re eating three follow-up hits with no way to escape. If parrying isn’t your strength, play it safe with dodge-and-punish. Wait for his overhead finisher — it has a full second of recovery where he’s completely open.
Boss: Zhang Xianzhong / Fierce Tiger (Main Boss, Major Story Boss)
Zhang Xianzhong is the centerpiece of Chapter 3 and one of the most memorable fights in the game. This is the point where the story takes a hard turn, and the boss design reflects it.
Fierce Tiger is aggressive, fast, and has a massive health pool. He fights with a glaive and uses it with terrifying speed for its size. His combos are six to eight hits long with unpredictable delays mixed in. The third hit and the sixth hit are both delayed — if you dodge at a steady rhythm, those delayed swings will catch you.
Phase 1 is pure melee. Stay at mid-range and wait for his charging slash. Dodge sideways and hit him once or twice during recovery. Do not get greedy. Three hits maximum, then reset. He punishes overcommitment with a fast counter-slash that comes out of nowhere.
Phase 2 starts at around 50% health. His attacks gain a dark energy effect, his combos extend to five or six hits, and he gains a shockwave slam and a dark glaive tornado. The shockwave slam is your best punish window — sprint out of range, then sprint back in during his landing recovery. The tornado is a multi-hit vortex — don’t dodge through it, run perpendicular and wait for it to end.
This fight demands that you learn his moves. There’s no trick, no cheese, no shortcut. Watch the animations, learn the delays, and punish cleanly. Bring your best gear and a full stack of healing items.
Boss: Bai Kru Monstrous Toddler (Optional Rematch, Extremely Aggressive)
Remember the tutorial boss from Chapter 1? He’s back, and he’s not here to teach you anything anymore. The Monstrous Toddler form of Bai Kru is one of the most aggressive optional bosses in the game.
He attacks constantly. His moveset is completely new — fast claw swipes, lunging grabs, and a screaming AOE that staggers you if you’re within range. Fight him after beating Zhang Xianzhong and upgrading your gear.
The screaming attack is your only reliable healing window — about two seconds. Sprint away, heal, sprint back in. Every other opening is too tight.
Chapter 3 Checklist Before Moving On
- Completed the White-Robed Elder questline and obtained the Bone Whistle
- Used the Bone Whistle during the Bo Sorcerer fight (required to unlock the Zhao Yun secret boss in Chapter 5 — skipping this permanently locks you out)
- Explored Bai Mansion fully and checked for NPC conversations
- Defeated Zhang Xianzhong
- Both riddle doors from Chapters 1 and 2 are solved (last chance before Chapter 4 locks them)
Chapter 3 marks a major story shift. Whatever comes next, the game has shown you what it expects from you mechanically. If you’ve made it through Zhang Xianzhong and Commander Honglan, you have the skills to handle what’s ahead.
