WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers Weapon Tier List — All 5 Weapons Ranked
Every weapon type in WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers ranked from best to worst. Honest tier list with reasoning, matchup advice, and investment recommendations.
How I’m Ranking These
I’m ranking all five weapon types on four criteria: overall damage output, survivability tools, skill floor (how easy it is to pick up), and consistency across different boss types. A weapon that dominates one fight but struggles in three others ranks lower than a weapon that performs well everywhere.
The community has largely settled on a consensus here, and I agree with most of it. Let me walk through each tier.
S Tier
1. Axe
The Axe sits alone at the top. Rampage — Variant I gives you lifesteal on every attack, which is the single most powerful mechanic in the game. No other weapon type has anything that fundamentally changes the survivability equation like this.
Strengths:
- Passive lifesteal through Rampage means you rarely need to flask
- Clash via Axe & Hook absorbs hits without stopping your offense
- Chop & Weave extends combos with built-in Clash frames
- Earthshatter breaks poise on large enemies efficiently
- Empyrean Greataxe weapon skill is one of the highest-damage moves in the game
- Works against every boss type without adjustment
Weaknesses:
- Slower attack speed than Dual Blades and One-Handed Swords
- Mobile bosses that disengage frequently reduce your lifesteal uptime
- Some players find it too easy and prefer a more demanding weapon
Verdict: If a weapon has no bad matchups and passively heals you through combat, it’s the best weapon. The Axe earns the top spot by being excellent at everything and terrible at nothing.
2. Dual Blades
Dual Blades are the other community favorite, and they deserve the spot. Fastest attack speed in the game, access to Clash, and when paired with Twin Bandits specifically, they get built-in Block plus health recovery on follow-up attacks.
Strengths:
- Highest attack speed means fastest poise breaks and Obliterate triggers
- Clash mechanic absorbs hits mid-combo
- Twin Bandits add Block and healing, making them arguably the best single weapon in the game
- Exceptional against humanoid bosses with long combo strings
- Damage ceiling is higher than Axes when played perfectly
Weaknesses:
- Squishier than Axes without Twin Bandits’ Block healing
- Clash timing is tighter at high speed, punishing mistakes harder
- AoE-heavy bosses force you out of the aggressive playstyle
- Higher skill floor than Axes — you need to learn Clash timing
Verdict: Dual Blades match Axe damage and exceed it in some matchups, but the survivability gap puts them slightly below. If Twin Bandits were the only dual blades in the game, I might bump this to #1. With other dual blades, the sustain gap is noticeable.
A Tier
3. Longsword
The Longsword is the skill weapon. Sword Counter gives you a Deflect stance that, when timed correctly, negates damage entirely and opens a massive counter-attack. No other weapon has this mechanic, and at peak play, it produces the highest single-hit damage numbers in the game.
Strengths:
- Deflect negates incoming damage completely (not just absorption like Clash)
- Counter-attacks from Sword Saint deal enormous damage
- Generates Skyborn Might rapidly through successful Deflects
- Makes humanoid bosses with weapon combos feel almost trivial once mastered
- Highest ceiling for skilled players
Weaknesses:
- Deflect doesn’t work on kicks, grabs, magic, or AoE attacks
- Steep learning curve — Deflect timing is precise
- Against non-humanoid bosses, the build loses its identity and becomes a generic melee weapon
- No passive sustain — you rely entirely on flasks and positioning
Verdict: The Longsword is S-tier in the hands of someone who has mastered Deflect, and B-tier in the hands of someone who hasn’t. I’m splitting the difference and putting it at the top of A. If you’re the type of player who went through Sekiro without spamming prosthetics, you might disagree with this ranking — and you might be right, for your specific hands.
B Tier
4. Spear
The Spear is the safe weapon. Longest reach, best spacing tools via Steam Chain, and a hit-and-run playstyle that keeps you outside most boss danger zones. It won’t kill bosses fast, but it kills them consistently.
Strengths:
- Longest range of any weapon type — many boss attacks whiff naturally
- Steam Chain provides excellent repositioning
- Unstoppable Force is a solid gap-closer with damage
- Easy to learn, forgiving playstyle
- Great for bosses that wall you on other weapons
Weaknesses:
- Lowest damage per second of all five weapons
- No Clash or Deflect — dodge is your only defense when bosses close the gap
- Fights take noticeably longer, which means more opportunities for mistakes
- Fast humanoid bosses that stick to you negate the range advantage entirely
- Boring, if I’m being honest — the gameplay loop is less dynamic than other weapons
Verdict: I respect the Spear. It’s a legitimate choice that gets results through patience. But in a game that rewards aggression with mechanics like Clash, Rampage, and Deflect, the Spear’s passive playstyle leaves damage and excitement on the table. It’s a great backup weapon but a mediocre main.
5. One-Handed Sword
The One-Handed Sword exists to enable the magic build. Its melee identity is the weakest of the five weapon types — lower damage than Longsword, less reach than Spear, no Clash like Dual Blades. What it offers is spell synergy that no other weapon matches.
Strengths:
- Best weapon for spell-focused builds by a wide margin
- Skyborn Might generation synergy enables frequent spell casting
- Ranged damage through spells bypasses most melee-focused boss patterns
- Unique playstyle unlike anything else in the game
- Fun in New Game Plus when you already know boss patterns
Weaknesses:
- Weakest melee kit of all five weapons
- Squishiest build — no lifesteal, no Clash, no Deflect
- Spell effectiveness varies wildly by boss matchup
- Aggressive bosses that close the gap constantly shut down the range advantage
- Requires significant Impetus investment in spell nodes instead of weapon damage
Verdict: The magic build is unique and legitimately fun, but it’s objectively weaker than the melee-focused weapons in most situations. The One-Handed Sword only makes sense if you’re specifically building around spells. As a pure melee weapon, it’s the worst of the five.

Investment Advice
First playthrough: Invest in Axes. Full stop. It’s the safest investment with the broadest return. If you hate axes for aesthetic reasons, Dual Blades are the next-best option.
Second weapon type: Pick based on your weaknesses. If certain bosses give your Axe trouble, Longsword Deflect or Spear Control might answer those specific fights.
Remember: Weapon upgrades apply to entire weapon types. If you push Axe Mastery to +8, every axe you own is +8. This means you can freely switch between individual axes without losing progress. But investing in a new weapon TYPE (like switching from Axes to Longsword) requires separate upgrade materials.
Late game / New Game Plus: You’ll have enough Red Mercury Essence from the Impetus Repository to comfortably fill out two or three weapon Discipline trees. Don’t stress about “wasting” currency — you can respec at any time.
Final Thoughts
Every weapon in Wuchang can clear the game. I’ve seen players do full runs with each type. This tier list reflects relative power and consistency, not viability. If you love the Spear aesthetic and the hit-and-run playstyle speaks to you, play Spear. You’ll have a perfectly fine time.
But if you want the path of least resistance, the answer is Axe. It has been since launch, and nothing in the current balance has changed that.
